BIO
I was born and raised in the port of Tampico, México, a historic oil town long considered the “New Orleans of México.”
The social unrest and violence I witnessed during my teenage years shaped my interest in art as a tool to investigate socio-political conflict. Meanwhile, many positive aspects of my childhood also shaped my artistic sensibilities. I developed a deep passion for mesoamerican art history which continues to inspire my work.
In 2015, I won the prestigious Springborn Fellowship for "The Urban Codex", received the Boit Award's Honorable Mention for "Stay away from the Window/ A Tourist's Paradise" in 2016, and was honored with the Tufts Senior Award 2017 for academic and leadership achievement. Most recently, I was featured as a Young Artist by Tampico’s governmental Secretary of Culture by June 2020.
I graduated from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA) at Tufts University in 2017, where I concentrated on Animation. I am currently based in Lynn, Massachusetts.
My professional artistic speciality continues to be animation, both hand animation and digital animation (which I did to create the music video for up-and-coming musical artist Abigail Ory’s “Waves”). I am also working on a video game called Tropical Depression Tampico.
I am open for inquiries and commissions and would love to hear from you! Please reach out to me via ag.barrios41@gmail.com or via my contact page here.
